In March 2004 the Arbroath Smokie was granted Protected Geographical Indication by the European Commission. This award will protect the international reputation of the Smokie and provide protection against imitations.

Whilst this is widely used in Europe the Smokie is one of only a handful of products from the UK to have been awarded this recognition. Arbroath Smokies can only be called this if they have been produced using traditional methods within an 8-kilometre radius of the town.

We are one of the first processors in Arbroath to have been awarded a certificate to say that our Smokies are the genuine article, so you can be assured that the products you are buying are produced using traditional methods providing you with a superior product to many of the imitations you may find in the supermarket.

PGI branding has made the Smokie a luxury product and along with Parma Ham and Champagne it is now in the premier league of food.
